The coronavirus (COVID-19) health crisis has created uncertainties throughout our community. It’s during times like these that we feel an amplified need to give back to our Marietta and Cobb County community. An area that we feel particularly passionate about is ensuring our youth receive adequate nutrition despite school closures. For some, the economic impact of the COVID-19 health crisis is so significant that providing breakfast and lunch meals their children need while schools are closed becomes a struggle. More than 40% of Cobb County students qualify for free or reduced lunches, so the Jones & Swanson family is partnering with local organizations to ensure those needs are met.
If you’re able, please join us in giving. Any amount helps, and even one less child missing a meal makes your donation worthwhile. Here are a few opportunities for giving back to students in-need:
cobb Bar Donation Drive
In addition to the Cobb Bar’s ongoing support via the Children’s Emergency Fund, a Donation Drive has been started to raise money for grocery and restaurant delivery/pick up gift cards for in-need students and families. Social workers from the school system will be responsible for distributing the gift cards based on need. To purchase a $10, $20, $50 or $100 gift card, visit cobbcountybar.org.
cobb Schools Foundation
During this time of extended school closures, the Cobb Schools Foundation has recognized the need of hundreds of students who would normally depend on school breakfasts and lunches. All donations to this program will be utilized by school social workers to provide $50 gift cards for Kroger, Publix, Walmart, and QT to families identified as in-need so they can purchase food, medicine, toiletries and gas. To donate to this initiative, visit cobbschoolsfondation.org.
must Food Rapid Response
The Cobb County School District and MUST Ministries are partnering to provide food to all Cobb County students in need because of school closures. Fully cooked breakfast and lunch meals are available for pick up to Cobb County students at 8 local drive-thru locations. In addition, Family Food Boxes are available for pick up at 31 drive-thru sites in our local area. For this outreach, you can donate food, time or money. You can drop off or ship non-perishable groceries to 1280 Field Parkway, Marietta, Georgia, make a monetary donation online, or sign up to volunteer to carry boxes out to vehicles by visiting mustministries.org.
During this uncertain time, it’s important that we come together in support of our community as a whole. We’re all in this together. Stay well!
