In a new statement released on June 25th, 2024; Ford calls for the recall of over 550,000 pickup trucks in the U.S. due to transmission issues causing the vehicle to downshift unexpectedly.
THE FORD f-150 RECALL
This recall encompasses certain F-150 pickups from the 2014 model year. In the released documents, Ford states that the transmissions can shift to first gear regardless of the speed the vehicle is going. This in turn can cause too much power and torque from the engine to be exerted and increase the risk of a crash.
Investigation into these complaints began in March after continued reports. In those documents released, the problem is caused due to a lost signal between transmission speed sensors and the powertrain control computer; with the addition of known corrosion and connector pin issues.
FIXES FOR OWNERS
Ford or Lincoln dealers will update the powertrain control software at no cost to those affected by this issue. Letters will be sent in early July to owners. Those who have paid to have these repairs completed prior may be eligible for reimbursement as well. Ford anticipates that fewer than 1% of the recalled vehicles will have this very problem
In the statement as well, Ford states that before the malfunctioning downshift, drivers may see an indicator light on their dashboard. In some instances, the signals may begin working again as the truck is moving and return to normal. In others, drivers may need to stop and restart the engine to work properly.
