Last month, child safety seat manufacturing company Britax Child Safety, Inc. announced a large-scale carseat recall due to chest clip safety concerns. This voluntary recall was agreed upon by Britax in cooperation with the NHTSA and other regulatory authorities.
The Britax child safety seat chest clip recall affects certain B-Safe 35, B-Safe 35 Elite, and BOB B-Safe 35 Perfect car seats manufactured between November 1, 2015 and May 31, 2017. The company has received reports of chest clips breaking while in use, presenting a choking hazard to an infant in the car seat. Fortunately, no choking injuries have been reported.
To identify if your seat is included in this recall, you can check the model number and date of manufacture of the seat. This information is located on the date of manufacture label on the bottom of your infant car seat. This is also where you can find the serial number for your product, which is needed to request your remedy kit. To determine whether your car seat is included in the recall, you can visit www.bsafe35clip.com.
You can also tell if your seat is affected by physically inspecting the chest clip itself. Open the chest clip, press the tab and pull the two sides of the chest clip apart. Turn the chest clip over – if the back of your chest clip reads “AES”, then your chest clip is affected.
Britax is providing a free remedy kit to registered owners of the recalled car seats. The remedy kit includes step-by-step instructions and a replacement chest clip.
