The news has been full of vehicle recall announcements recently. You’ve likely heard about the largest airbag recall in the industry’s history in Takata devices affecting Honda, Acura, and so many others. Recently a 12th fatality was confirmed as a result of these exploding airbag defects. Earlier this month, Honda announced a recall of yet another 1.2 million vehicles – this time due to batteries not being sealed correctly. 2013 – 2016 Honda Accord automobiles have received numerous reports of engine fires after shorts in battery sensors. These battery sensors are meant to let drivers know when an issue is present in the battery of the vehicle, but due to insufficient sealing against moisture, substances from the roadway can enter the sensor. This has led to engine fires in a few instances. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported as a result. In addition to this Honda airbag recall, auto manufacturing giant Toyota also accounted a recall on 2016 and 2017 Toyota Tacoma trucks. The total number of recalled trucks is estimated at 250,000. The defect is said to have the potential for leaking oil and damaging the rear differential. Typically this would only cause less power and a noisier ride, but in severe instances could cause drivers to lose control of the truck and crash.
